iQmetrix, a Vancouver, BC-based provider of retail management software for the North American wireless industry, and Planar Systems, Inc. a developer of specialty display technology, have partnered up to design interactive retail systems for mobile retailers.
The XQ Interactive Retail platform from iQmetrix allows customers to interact with product information via touch screens in stores. Customers can do things like compare features and specs of multiple smartphones, and investigate pricing and plan options, while they wait for help from a salesperson. There is also a back-end component to the system that allows retailers to easily update product information, manage inventory, and monitor engagement levels. The system, which is just breaking into Canada and the U.S., will now feature Planar Systems touch screens.

According to iQmetrix, 10% of all handset purchases in North America go through the company’s point-of-sale system.
