Movember 2010 - Support the iQmetrix Moustache Alliance

By Chad McCallum Oct 13, 2010

Movember is a yearly event organized by the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas dedicate themselves throughout the month of November to raise funds for research and awareness programs to fight prostate cancer and promote men’s health. This is usually done by Mo Bros collecting pledges to grow moustaches from November 1st to the 30th.

The Movember Foundation was founded in Australia in 2004. It spread to include Ireland, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States in 2007. Last year, there were more than 255,000 participants worldwide, collecting over a million donations totaling $47 million. Canada took 2nd Place in the world standings, with 35,000 participants raising $7.8 million.

This will be the third year iQmetrix has supported Movember. We collect donations from the company, our co-workers, family and friends by holding fundrasing events throughout the month of November, with a sweet wrap-up party at the end. To date, we’ve raised over $2,000 for prostate cancer research and education.

Why do we do it? Among Canadian participants last year, 39 percent sought medical advice because of Movember, and 36 percent encouraged others to seek medical advice. All funds we raise go directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, and of course, there’s no better reason to grow a moustache! As they say, "Every man deserves a bit of luxury."

If you’re interested in helping, there’s three ways you can get involved:

We'll be hosting a Mo Party in some of our offices and working with our local communities to come up with creative ways to raise money and awareness for this great cause, so feel free to contact us for more information!
