iQmetrix Awards Four Students with 2017 Females in Technology (FIT)’ Scholarships

VANCOUVER, BC – August 22, 2017 – iQmetrix was pleased to present its annual Females in Technology Scholarship to 2017 recipients Raquel Thieseen and Andrea Abellera from Manitoba (pictured above) and Hannah Kopytko and Sundus Zia from Saskatchewan.

Hannah was chosen for suggesting an excellent program of mentorship with schools and youth to demonstrate the real-world opportunities computer science has to offer.

Sundus was chosen for her idea to engage students with campaigns showing the importance of computer science.

Raquel was selected for her suggestions for adding education around roles and potential career paths as part of introductory Computer Science courses, showing the vastness of the field and giving students the ability to see themselves in different roles, rather than the idea that Computer Science is strictly solitary programming.

Andrea was chosen for her idea of gamifying cybersecurity to teach youth practical ways of protecting themselves online.

In the three years iQmetrix has offered these scholarships, we have received dozens of applications from young women interested in technology,” says Melissa Kendall, Chair of iQmetrix’s Females in Technology Committee. In continuing to offer scholarships we hope to promote the idea of Computer Science as a successful career for women.”

Founded in 2013, iQmetrix Females in Technology (FIT) scholarship is devoted to seeking opportunities to support women in technology and assisting in (or creating) opportunities to promote females in technology. The group is also committed to promoting Computer Science as a career path to all youth.
