Winnipeg

Women in IT week was a great week, we had lots of successful conversations and good vibes this week.

Our Women, Wine & Tech community networking event was a great hit. We had 24 non-iQers sign up. The women really appreciated a chance to get to meet other ladies in the community that share common work situations. We did a small ice breaker where we asked small groups questions like “What changes would you like to see in tech culture?” and “What do you think the IT industry would look like if gender ratios were reversed – roughly 80% women and 20% men?” and the rest of the time the ladies got to mingle and enjoy some wine and snacks. We also made some good connections with ladies from Manitoba Start, Girls in Gaming, New Media Manitoba and Red River College. Everyone agreed that they would love to see more events in the future.

The ladies of iQmetrix Winnipeg also got a chance to sit down together and do their own round table discussions. It was really nice to have the space to talk and we had some discussions that would not typically come up. We finished off the week with a quick cupcake celebration for everyone in the Winnipeg office. We really wanted to let the guys know how appreciative we are about the inclusive and balanced environment. We shared kudos and appreciation in the ‘WIT box’.

Regina

iQRegina hosted our very first Women in IT celebration in our new office. The Regina office started off the week with a Women, Wine and Tech night, which offered some light snacks, wine and great conversation from some of today's leading ladies in Regina's tech and business community. By 4 p.m., the hub was filled with different women working in IT around YQR, and some of our fellow iQers. We were able to share industry stories, and learn about their experiences working in tech. We followed the week with a TED Talks viewing and discussion, and closed off with a little celebration for our staff members with cupcakes and a few drinks.

Charlotte

The Davidson family is growing quickly!

We held a remote baby shower for Karrie Stokes! With the help of her husband Luke (who we enlisted), Karrie was completely surprised with a stroller and lunch! Karrie will welcome her newest addition, a baby boy in mid June. We held a surprise wedding shower for Mike Welsch and a surprise baby shower for Nick Palazzo at the local Mexican restaurant. Margaritas all around!

Mike and his fiancé Rachel Basler are finally tying the knot on Saturday, May 28! Nick and his wife Heather welcome their little one, also a boy, first part of June!

Clambake on Tuesday was a blast. We played a version of Rock Paper Scissors with bear cowboy ninja!! (Bear beats ninja, cowboy beats bear, ninja beats cowboy). As we dwindled down, the contestants overall winner with ninja beats cowboys was Jeff!

Vancouver

It was Women in IT week across the nation and Vancouver jumped right in with a few iQer’s attending the awards reception at SFU’s Downtown campus. iQmetrix’ Manager of Corporate Relations, Krystal Ho, presented our very own Director of Corporate Intelligence, Debbie Mills, with The WIT Lifetime Achievement Award.

Following that, the Vancouver office hosted our first ever Women, Wine & Tech meetup, welcoming a wide range of 75 external attendees, as well as, all of our local iQ ladies.

The goal was to create a casual and fun networking environment where everyone had the opportunity to tell their story of how they developed in their career. With a great spread of munchies, plenty of wine to go around and a Pure Leaf station full of tasty refreshments, it didn’t take long before the lounge was packed with eager and inspirational women from all over the city, speaking loud and proud about their roles.
