What's New in the Q?

Charlotte

The 11th annual Run for Green 5K, 10K and half marathon took place in Davidson and iQmetrix always does its part to help sponsor the EcoDavidson organization. Proceeds from the races support EcoDavidson’s efforts to protect natural areas, open areas, greenways and trails. Several iQers took part in the race that morning. Thanks to everyone who came out to run, walk or cheer on our fellow co-workers.

This is our 4th year of donating turkeys to the local soup kitchens. These three organizations are just incredible. Feeding hundreds of people a day, these men and women never stop. So far we have donated approximately 700lbs of food to Mooresville Soup Kitchen and Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen. Next up is 5th Street Ministries, they will receive approximately 150lbs of food. The outpouring of appreciation is awesome!

Regina

The month of October was a busy one in the iQRegina office! Along with the other offices, we hosted a company wide clothing drive competition throughout the entire month of October. After everything was said and done, the Regina office landed fourth place with a total of 1748 points, and an overall total of 10.63 points per employee. The Regina office donated all of the clothes to the YWCA. The YWCA Regina exists to support the diverse needs of women in the realization of their full potential. They provide safe, supportive housing (at no cost) to women & children fleeing abusive relationships, single women including support regarding life skills, problem solving & dealing with mental health issues, and much more.

To finish up the month, we had a Halloween costume contest where we asked our staff to dress up in their best Halloween gear, and voted for the best costume on both an office level as well as a dompany level. Our The top three winners in the Regina Office were Mike B, Brendan B and seven of our girls dressed up as Shark Week (Beth, Brett, Erin, Megan, Madison, Kelly and Tanya). Not only did we have great costumes, but we also had amazing food supplied by the office in our annual Halloween potluck.

Vancouver

November has been a very busy month so far for us here in the Vancouver office. Three separate teams held different events that were hugely successful!

The Girls.jpgOn Saturday, November 5th, the Thestral and Phoenix teams spent the day at the Vancouver Food Bank by helping sort and package up goods for families in the Vancouver area. As one of our core values, giving back to the community is very important to us, so thank you guys for giving back! To learn more about the Greater Vancouver Food Bank where you too can donate or volunteer your time, please check out their webpage here.

Saturday, November 12th, 2016 was the 3rd annual Girls Learning Code day hosted by Ladies Learning Code. There were events held across Canada with over 480 learner pairs (girls and their parent) and 220 mentors who registered across Canada. In Vancouver, these events were held at 3 separate locations; one downtown at Unbounce, one near False Creek at the Centre for Digital Media with a total of 75 pairs. The one we attended was at the Electronic Arts campus in Burnaby where 44 pairs and 13 mentors attended, plus the five people from EA who also helped.

The event is one where girls can learn how to make their own superhero game using Scratch; a programming environment and community aimed for beginners. They also learned how to program their character to move around the screen using arrow keys, to interact with the background, and to add sound effects to their game! Go girls! Winnipeg

Palace 12 cropped.jpgLast year the Winnipeg office decided to take team building to the next level by hosting the iQGames, which consisted of weekly individual and team challenges to bring the office together. A new year, means new challenges. iQWars kicked off a few weeks ago, and teams have been busy making alliances, plotting and deceiving one another. Friday’s challenge was a partner challenge to see who could build the tallest structure using just marshmallows and dry spaghetti. With three challenges left, it could still be anyone’s game. We’re excited to see who this year’s winner will be.

The office decided to get festive a bit early this year. They kicked off the holiday season with an office decorating and gift wrapping party! They sampled some holiday themed cocktails and enjoyed some delicious snacks. The office is now ready to host Santa and all our iQKids at their Christmas party next Saturday.
