Welcome to the new iQmetrix website. It's been a bit of a sprint getting it all together, but it's been a pleasure working with the entire extended team.
When I came in the door of the Vancouver office, Alen Puaca had started just before me. One of Alen's last projects before joining iQmetrix was working on the visuals around various aspects of the 2010 Winter Olympics here in Vancouver, from the opening ceremonies to the Olympic cauldron (check out his blog post about the Art of 2010 Olympic Opening for some amazing visuals). On my first day, Alen was just digging into overhauling the brand and design for iQmetrix and all of its products. We went for lunch and started talking about the website as a major component of that brand overhaul.
At the time, five weeks remained before our annual Wireless User Summit... As I have often advised people in the past: Every website project takes 3 months. The back and forth with stakeholders, the sign-off on graphical comps, then shoe-horning the design into an HTML friendly format, and endless rounds of tweaks. 5 weeks? Could we do it?
Fast forward a week or so, and the decision had been made. Scott McGillivray, our VP of Marketing, said, Let's go for it; let's get going on a new website launch, but it has to be ready before the Summit. We had our marching orders, and we all felt passionate about tuning up the web home.
The first order of business was finding a local team to power the new website platform. Of course, I drew from my experience and decided that using a platform I was familiar with would ensure that we would launch on time: The new iQmetrix website would be Drupal-powered. After reaching out to a handful of local Vancouver firms, we ended up working with The Jibe. Steve, Francis, Erik and the rest of The Jibe team have been fantastic to work with. I tried to reign in the scope creep since we had such a hard deadline to meet, and TheJibe team didn't roll their eyes too much at my requests.
Aside from the massive facelift from Alen Puaca, the "other" Allan Pulga -- who has been writing the iQmetrix newsletter for many years -- started just a week and a half ago as Communications Manager. He dove in to start editing and adding content to the new site. We now have news, split into three fresh content areas:
- The News section, which contains press releases, newsletter articles, and product announcements about and by the company
- The Events section, where we'll highlight some of the 50 events that we attend in person every year, including the big annual events like our Wireless Summit, CES, and CTIA
- The Blog, where you'll hear directly from various people throughout the company in a more casual tone. We might write about interesting technology (kind of like iQmetrix developer Garett Rogers already does on his Google-focused blog over at ZDNet), and we'll definitely be highlighting various happenings in the local communities where iQmetrix has offices.
So, hello. Welcome to the new website. You'll see more content more regularly, with more graphics & visuals. Have feedback? Please let us know. We're happy you stopped by, and hope to see you again.
