Registered customers can begin adding desired gift items either online or in-store -- scanning products using the app. This is a unique improvement over the typical gift registry process, whereby department stores simply give brides and grooms barcode scanners to scan potential gifts of their choosing.
Best Buy hopes its new registry will make the retailer more relevant to millennial shoppers.
By using the Best Buy Wedding Registry, couples and gift-givers can have access to nearly everything Best Buy sells, including technology gifts and home appliances, and many top brands, such as Apple, Dyson, GoPro, Keurig, Nest, Beats, Sony, Samsung and more," wrote Mobile Commerce Daily's Caitlyn Bohannon.
The registry also allows for "group gifting" on more expensive items.
In addition, the New York Times reported (Feb. 11) that couples will have the option of syncing their Best Buy registries with MyRegistry.com and Theknot.com. Best Buy is hoping the new registry will make the retailer more relevant to shoppers in their 20s and 30s.
“Electronics and small appliances are as important to today’s newlyweds as silverware and towels,” said Wendy Fritz, Best Buy’s head of gift strategy.
