Building Expressions

Mar 23, 2014 — Ashia Coleman

When building ratios (e.g. accessories/opportunity, Actual/Target) there are scenarios in which you will want to build these measures in the Tablix rather than in the query designer.

In the case of a flat report, meaning there is only one level of the hierarchy present in the query, it is best to build ratios in the Query Designer:

To be clear, let’s take the example of the "RegionsAndStores. RegionsAndStores" hierarchy: If your query only includes ONE of the levels, this is considered a flat report.

In the case of a drill-down report, meaning there are two or more levels of a hierarchy present in the query, it is best to build ratios in the Tablix.

This is considered a drill-down report.
